As You Find Me

By: Hillsong UNITED

Verse 1

I've been strong
And I've been broken within a moment
I've been faithful
And I've been reckless at every bend
I've held everything together
And watched it shatter
I've stood tall and I have crumbled
In the same breath

We were not promised a perfect & easy life. God's plan for His people has always- and I mean always- been amazing. God has created this perfect plan for our lives so that we can live our best lives. Whether you are a Christian or not, you are going to go through some time of hurt/suffering in life. Why not suffer with a God who has the whole situation in the palm of His hands? Suffering might mean that you are broken within a moment, or that everything begins to shatters around you, or you just begin to crumble. But through all of that, we need to know that we are running a race with the best price we can possibly think of at the finish line. In 2 Peter 1:3-4 we are reminded that "He has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him." God has given us all the supplies to run us through the race. What supplies has He given you to help your race & what supplies have you brought on that are hindering your race?

Verse 2

I have wrestled
And I have trembled toward surrender
Chased my heart adrift
And drifted home again
Plundered blessing
Till I've been desperate to find redemption
And every time I turn around
Lord You're still there

From the beginning of time, God never promised His children an easy life. Moses is a great example of someone who's life was hard but yet so good. Moses was born as a jew and immediately hidden for 3 months because Pharaoh was on the search to kill all baby males. Moses' mom put Moses in a basket and left him in the river. Because God is so faithful, Pharaoh's wife found him, and Moses was raised into royalty. Moses had a good life - living with the Paroah of Egypt. However, he almost killed an Egyptian who was beating a slaved Isrealite, so he had to leave Egypt because the Pharaoh was out to kill him. Jesus called Moses out in the wildness to prepare him for when Moses would be going back into Egypt. He prepared Moses for what was to come by placing him in the wilderness for 40 years. Moses was feeling desperate, wrestling with negative thoughts and feeling completely hopeless. This is what Moses was saying to Jesus as he felt these things:"But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice" (Exodus 4:1) "I am not eloquent, either in the post or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue" (Exodus 4:10) Jesus spoke to Moses through a burning bush and anointed him that he would move the slaved people out of Egypt onto Mt. Sinai. This was the beginning and the reason for the "let my people go" rhyme in Sunday school that you might have learned. The 10 plagues took place and Moses was persistent in his obedience to God to ask the Pharaoh to let his people go. This was NOT an easy life. Moses had to go back to the city, where the Pharoah was out to kill him, and ask for the people to be set free. Finally 10 days later, Pharaoh gave in and let the people go. This is a beautiful symbol that God is King and God has FULL power. Jesus knew what He was doing the entire time.

"But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain."

This was Jesus' response to Moses as he was doubting the things God was asking of him. His was response was assuring and calming. God is gracious in His faithfulness and keeps His promises. His promise that He will never leave or forsake us. (Deuteronomy 3:8)

Thank you Jesus for being there for us indefinitely. It is something hard to fathom, but help remind us of your promises and faithfulness.

Pre-Chorus

I was found
Before I was lost
I was Yours
Before I was not
Grace to spare
For all my mistakes
And that part just wrecks me

This. is. why. we. praise. Him. These words give me chills. We were found and are His alone- before my mom even knew I was going to be me!!!! Before anything was in existence. ME. YOU. whhhaaaaatttt?

Grace means God moving heaven and earth to save us sinners who could not lift a finger on our own. Grace means God sending His only son to die on the cross so we can receive the gift of freedom (Romans 3:22-24). God has an abundance of grace that will ALWAYS be able to cover for our mistakes. God has a grace that He will always be able to provide for us.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not be works, so that no one can boast. For we are Gods handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" Ephesians 2:8-10

Chorus

And I know I don't deserve this kind of love
Somehow this kind of love is who You are
It's a grace I could never add up
To be somebody You still want
But somehow
You love me as You find me

We REALLY do not deserve this kind of love. "This kind of love" that is so gracious to us. "This kind of love" that sacrificed so much for us. "This kind of love" that sees all of our sin and still chooses us. 1 John 4: 10 does a good job of summarizing the type of love God has for us: "this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." Somehow (for reasons we cannot even fathom), God looks at us and wants us. It is literally a grace that us humans cannot figure out. How can someone know the sins of the whole world (murder, lies, deciet, lust...) and still want us AND die for us?? It blows my mind. And it  should make all of us forever grateful and forever in love & awe of Him. He loves us where we are. He has placed a "banner of love over us" (Song of Songs 2:4) to show His commitment to His beloved. We are claimed by His love and we do not have to do anything to earn it.

Verse 3

Who am I
To think Your glory needs my praises
But if this borrowed breath is Yours Lord
Take it all
You are faithful and You are gracious
And I'm just grateful
To think You don't need a single thing
And still You want my heart

God doesn't NEED anything- He is holy and righteous and is in no need of anything from us. But, He WANTS us. He wants us to praise Him and love Him. So, we should gladly use the breath He has given us to praise Him. Because guess what? If we don't praise him, the rocks surely will. Everything in creation cries out to the Lord: the rocks, the wind, the waves, the mountains. Just like Psalms 66:4 says, "All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” If we skip out on praising our Creator, then we are letting the rocks steal our praises. I don't know about you, but I'm not okay with that. I want the Lord to have ALL of my praises- He can literally have all of me. And why are we praising Him? Because he has shown us grace, love, and faithfulness. He has been there by our side since the beginning and has promised to never leave our side. Just like the song says, he doesn't need a single thing yet He actually wants my heart. To me, that is more than enough reason for me to praise Him with everything I have.

Pre-Chorus 2
I was found
Before I was lost
I was Yours
Before I was not
You wear the scars
For all my mistakes
And that part just wrecks me

and. that. part. just wrecks. me. What a great way to put into words of something that is so unfathomable. Simple, but so complex, that it wrecks us. Why does it wreck me? Well, God wanted a relationship with me. I am given the gift of freedom because He died for me. A person who is so FAR from perfect. A person that neglects Him and is so sinful, yet He wants me, He wants me. SO I say that it wrecks me but the real question is, what am I doing in response to the Gospel wrecking me? Am I praising Him for the life He has blessed me or am I just going through the motions thanking Him from time to time? What posture are you taking from the Gospel "wrecking" you?

Your love's too good to leave me here

His love is too good to leave us here. Well, where is "here" exactly? I think this is referring to the idea that God does not want to leave us in sin. In Genesis, God created the heavens and the earth, and then the fall happened. Sin entered the world. God could have easily said "I'm done" right then and there and got rid of humanity all together. But instead, he chose to not leave us this way. He chose to bring His one and only son down to earth to bring redemption to the world. He chose for there to be another way to Him. He chose us. THANK YOU JESUS!!!

Bridge

If You want my heart
I won't second guess
‘Cause I need Your love
More than anything
I'm in
I'm Yours
Your love's too good to leave me here
Your love's too good to leave me

I love how this song ends with saying "I'm in. I'm yours." What a sweet declaration to wrap up the lyrics. The whole song is talking about how amazing God is and how well He loves us. Once we have an understanding of how much He truly loves us, we are able to surrender all to Him and obey Him out of complete delight. We do not have to follow Him out of demand and duty, rather, we get to follow Him out of full delight of who He is to us. I am beyond thankful to follow a King who loves me unconditionally.
