Spirit Lead Me
By: Influence Music
Verse 1
This is my worship
This is my offering
In every moment
I withhold nothing
I'm learning to trust You
Even when I can't see it
And even in suffering
I have to believe it
Chorus
If You say "it's wrong", then I'll say "no"
If You say "release", I'm letting go
If You're in it with me, I'll begin
And when You say to jump, I'm diving in
If You say "be still", then I will wait
If You say to trust, I will obey
I don't wanna follow my own ways
I'm done chasing feelings
Spirit lead me
Verse 2
It felt like a burden
But once I could grasp it
You took me further
Further than I was asking
And simply to see You
It's worth it all
My life is an altar
Let Your fire fall
Michael Ketterer, the singer and songwriter of Spirit Lead Me, stated that "obedience is the ultimate form of worship we can have to God our Father." Obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). Our worship should not withhold anything. It is our offering to God to give Him EVERYTHING. In the old testament, people had to use burnt offerings of animals and other sacrifices to show their obeidence to the Lord. Now, with the power of the Holy Spirit, we only need to sacrifice ourselves to be obedient. Now, I really shouldn't say "only need to" because self sacrifice is probably the most challenging task as a believer. We are told to literally give all of ourselves to God and trust that He has us even when we do not see it. That's HARD. But just like this song says, we are LEARNING to trust God with everything. The definition of learning is simplying gaining knowledge through experience. Every trial we face is a time for us to learn how to fully trust and sacrifice ourselves to God.

If you say its wrong then, I'll say no -- okay God, if you say it is off limits, I am walking away in obedience. I will no longer care what the world tells me. This earth will have an ending beat unlike my Father who has a never ending, eternal song.
If you say release I'm letting go -- I am not truly free until I let go of everything else and hold onto you, God. I am letting go of what feels comfortable because I know its temporary while you are eternal.
If you're in it with me, I'll begin -- Knowing that You are in it with me gives me the peace and courage to begin. You are holding my hand and will never leave my side.
When you say to jump, Im diving in -- There is no dipping your toes in the water with God, It is either all or nothing- being a lukewarm Christian just won't cut it. So, God, I am all in.
If you say be still, then I will wait -- I will patiently wait because all of my hope is in You, Lord.
If you say to trust, I will obey- I will trust that you know more than I do. Even if I cannot see it, I will put my trust in You.

God is the creator of all things. It blows my mind that we choose not to obey the creator and turn to our fleshly feelings and desires. When we follow our own ways, we aren't letting the Spirit lead our lives. Our feelings tend to lead our desires and our lives. Our feelings come from what WE want, and they will lead us along with the world.
Romans 8:14 "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."
We get the amazing gift of The Holy Spirit. (John 14:16) The Holy Spirit is our personal guide. He shows us things you didn't know were there and takes you where you need to go. The Holy Spirit also speaks. We are created to perfectly hear God. We GET to have the power of the Holy Spirit in us, so let's change our posture to allowing the Spirit to lead us. We say NO to our feelings but YES to the Spirit.

Obedience may feel like a burden at first- I mean we can't have it our way - that can be a huge issue for us. But just realize that being obedient to Him allows us to know Him as our loving Father. Once we truly know Him, there is no depth to His love and mercy for us!! Just think about this for a second- obedience leads to a strong realtionship with God. Just like with an earlthy father, The Lord wants His children to be obedient, and when His children obey, He is able to dive deeper with them and take them further than ever before.
Now, when I listened to the lyrics "my life is an alter let Your fire fall", I was instantly intrigued and confused at the same time. I then realized how powerful this lyric truly is. So first, let me start with the definition of an alter. An alter is a table where sacrifices are made. By saying my life is an alter, I am literally stating that my life is a place to make sacrifices. What about the "fire fall" part? Well, looking in the Old Testament there are multiple accounts when a person makes a burnt offering to The Lord and fire comes to cosume the offering. For example, In Leviticus 9:24, it states "fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown." When we sacrifice ourselves, God's all consuming fire will come down and consume us. WOW WOW WOW. And thats not even the coolest part! The end of that verse says "when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown." When we sacrifice ourselves to the Lord, others will see His loving fire consume us.How amazing is it that living our life as a sacrifice to Him allows others to see His goodness and mercy? Like okay Lord, LET YOUR FIRE FALL PLEASE!
Bridge
When all hope is gone
And Your word is all I've got
I have to believe
You still bring water from the rock
To satisfy my thirst
To love me at my worst
And even when I don't remember
You remind me of my worth
I don't trust my ways
I'm trading in my faults
I lay down everything
'Cause You're all that I want
I've landed on my knees
This is the cup You have for me
And even when it don't make sense
I'm gonna let Your spirit lead
Being a christian does not mean that everything will be easy. Times are going to get hard and things are not going to make sense. The only thing that WILL ALWAYS make sense is His word. His word is something that will never fail. (Hebrews 4:12). In the hard seasons of life, it is so easy to call God unfaithful, unpromising, and unfulfilling. We tend to forget the blessings and His faithfulness He HAS given to us.
There was a time like this in the book of Exodus. In Exodus 16 the Lord allowed bread to rain from Heaven for the people of Israel (Umm what? yeah go read Exodus 16!) The story continues to Exodus 17 (sound familiar from when we talked about the song Here Again?? by Elevation). The people of Israel were thirsty and doubted God could provide even though He provided water from rocks. It was so easy for the people of Israel to doubt and forget about His goodness even though He just allowed bread to rain down from the sky and water to come out of the rocks!! We do this same thing. Exodus 17:2 states "why do you test the Lord?" Isn't that a great question for us? We literally test the Lord even though he loves us unconditionally and calls us worthy.
Now, the biggest part of learning to trust God is surrendering everything to Him. Phillippians 2:10 declares that "every knee should bow" for the glory of God. Bowing shows submission to authority and our acceptance of our inheritance as children of God. Just like a prince will bow down to the king to accept the throne, we bow down to our king to accept the throne He is giving us (eternal life- woot woot). After we surrender everything to Him, He will fill our cup with His sweet goodness and love and our cup overflows (Psalm 23:5). We just need to remind ourselves that He is giving us all of His love and goodness. Sometimes it won't make sense at all, and that's okay. Be still and know He is in control. Let our perfect Father lead you.
